—What is Abacus?
Abacus is a calculating tool made of beads and Rods. Numbers take the form of beads and rods the place value in the abacus.
—How the system works?
The basic function of U C MAS Abacus Mental Arithmetic is to turn the numeric concept from abstract into visible, touchable and moveable beads. The purpose of learning Abacus Mental Arithmetic is to evade the usage of paper, pencil & calculator by interpreting the beads in mind.
—Will the U C MAS method of learning arithmetic confuse a child with school method?
No, definitely not. Abacus way of mental arithmetic is just another way in which a child can perform mental arithmetic. The children are given a choice of methods to choose from at school and abacus is the best amongst them. Millions of children have been learning this method and provide to be exceedingly good performers in Maths worldwide. Moreover 4 – 12 years is the right age to acquire, adopt and apply different methodologies.
—Who can join?
U C MAS is for kids between 4 to 12 years and can read & Write numbers 1 to 20.
—Can a child enter a level as per their ability?
No, all students must start from level 1
—What if my child cannot cope up with the U C MAS standards?
Normally a child who is regular to class and regular in homework will definitely be able to cope up. If the child struggles to understand or cope up, their teacher will provide a special class. Still if the child struggles then they must study the level again.
—What is the course duration?
3 (12 Weeks) Months per level
Classes are once a week for 2 hours
—What does the starter pack contain?
U C MAS Bag, U C MAS student abacus, Pencil, Sharpener & Basic level course materials.
—Is there any homework?
Yes. Every day practice of 15 to 20 minutes is required.
—What if my child misses a class?
It is not recommended for students to miss classes but if it happens, then a catch up class will be given informed in advance. But only on e catch-up class can be provided per level.
—Will the class day/time remain the same?
In U C MAS we try to keep the same day timing throughout the programme but in some exceptional cases we may change the batch timing with prior intimation
—Are the classes held throughout the year?
Classes are held throughout the year except during the annual holidays mentioned in our calendar.
—My child is not good at Maths. What kind of improvement can I expect?
The abacus mental arithmetic offers children a different method (Numbers into bead transformation), which many children find easier to others taught at school. With dedication from the child and strong parental support and encouragement, the child’s performance at school is bound to improve.
—My child is good at Maths. Is there a benefit in learning this concept?
Of course, yes. When a child is learning U C MAS mental arithmetic, they are undergoing the process of developing other aspects of mind, which improve their performance not only in Maths but also in a range of academic subjects.
